Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC)
A Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) is the committee who reviews applications for works to church buildings, be it repair, re-ordering, or large-scale alteration, conservation or extension works.
A Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) is the committee who reviews applications for works to church buildings, be it repair, re-ordering, or large-scale alteration, conservation or extension works.
The DAC makes its recommendations to the Diocesan Chancellor, a lawyer specialising in ecclesiastical building law, who grants a Faculty Certificate for the works, which gives Ecclesiastical Exemption from the secular Listed Building Consent planning system.
Any works that materially affect the external appearance, such as an extension, will still require Planning approval through the normal system.
Chloe sits on the DAC for Carlisle Diocese, specifically offering advice on technical and material issues, as well as design guidance along with other architects of the committee.
