Some of our most notable and treasured buildings are the ecclesiastical structures which set the country apart and make Britain truly great. Sadly, many are now in serious decline. Our work centres not just on crucial repairs and conservation, but encompasses congregations and communities as grant processes are successfully explored and triggered.
Churches & Chapels:
Currently helping 31 parochial church councils look after their buildings, special relationships are forged as we work together on wide-ranging projects.
We become part of a team which meets the needs of congregation, church or chapel, advising on grants, funding applications and phasing.
Through the Diocesan Advisory Committee, we undertake quinquennial inspections in Carlisle, Durham and Newcastle dioceses.
Abbeys & Monuments:
After the dissolution of monasteries, buildings not taken over by the Church of England, or converted to domestic use, eventually fell into serious disrepair.
Working alongside preservation bodies, including Historic England and English Heritage, we help create a better understanding of heritage assets.
We have provided conservation management plans for nationally important Furness Abbey and the associated Piel Castle.

We were appointed to carry out the historical research, assessment, and strategic management review, and develop and publish a Conservation Management Plan for Furness Abbey and Piel Castle, both in the Guardianship of English Heritage.
Eshton Hall is a listed grade II* country house located close to Gargrave in the Parish of Flasby with Winterburn, which is situated in North Yorkshire within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Craven District Council.
Set within the idyllic village of Grasmere, right in the middle of the LDNP, the commission included research and understanding of the existing condition of the fabric and major alterations.

It’s been very exciting to be part of the work involved to bring a 16th Century Grade II listed pub in Northampton back to life. It has had a colourful life, in continual use as an inn since the 15th century, burnt down and e-built twice in the 16th and 17th century but continued thriving through the centuries until it sadly closed in 2018. We are leading the conservation work to refurbish the inn for the Churches Conservation Trust. A recent archaeological dig has made some fascinating finds, to read more about it use the link in our bio.

Gordon Blunt joined the practice in September 2020 and is tasked with managing and improving the studio’s production of information, knowledge sharing and providing technical oversight on major projects.
